About this item

A country calico pig mug, made in Taiwan for J.S.N.Y.

The JSNY Country Calico pig mug is a plain, straight-sided white ceramic coffee mug wrapped in a blue calico panel of tiny white daisies, leaves and dots, with a white pig walking across each side. The pigs are left white and drawn in thin blue lines, with only their hooves picked out in orange-red. The bottom carries a small black transfer reading "©J.S.N.Y. / TAIWAN," and that mark is the only maker information on the piece.

No company history for J.S.N.Y. turned up in trademark, catalog or collector sources, though the letters appear on a wide run of inexpensive giftware: Christmas and Halloween decorations, fridge magnets, tins, salt and pepper shakers, figural children's mugs and banks. Sellers list some of it with Hong Kong marks and 1970s dates, and Taiwan-made J.S.N.Y. pieces with 1980s dates, such as an Old Dutch Cleanser tile trivet stamped "©JSNY 198_ TAIWAN" with the last digit hard to read. A few sellers expand the letters as Jeffrey Snyder New York, but no record confirming that was found. A New York business filing for a J.S.N.Y. Inc. covers only 1999 to 2003, so it may be a different company.

The pig belongs to a set of farm animal mugs that sellers call Country Calico. Listings pair it with a white cow on a red calico ground (with a green leaf and a yellow flower in its mouth), a chicken or rooster on yellow and a duck or goose on green, sold singly and in sets of two to four, and the same animals turn up on square ceramic tile trivets and on tin trays. A dealer dates a four-mug set to the 1980s, and so do most sellers, which fits the dated Taiwan pieces. The mark itself has no year, so the decade rests on that agreement and the company's other dated wares, not on a date printed on the mug.

This copy shows the full design on both sides with the pigs facing opposite ways. The glaze and print look clean in the photos, and the unglazed foot ring is darkened with grime, as most used copies are.

Detailed visual description

A white pig on blue daisy calico, on a plain white mug

The mug is a straight cylinder of glossy white ceramic with a rounded C-shaped handle. A rectangular print panel covers almost the whole outside, framed top and bottom by a thin blue line inside a wider blue band, so a narrow white stripe shows at the rim and the base. The panel's ground is a medium cornflower blue, scattered with small white daisies with dotted centers, white leaf sprigs, tiny zigzags and dots.

On each side a large white pig walks in profile, one facing left and one facing right. Each pig is a flat white silhouette with thin blue lines marking the ear, eye, snout, jowl, the line of the belly and the legs, plus a small curled tail. The hooves are bright orange-red, the only warm color on the mug, which is plain white inside and on the handle.

  • Front: white pig walking left across the blue calico panel.
  • Back: a matching pig walking right.
  • Handle: plain white C handle, no print.
  • Rim and base: blue band and thin blue line framing the panel at both edges.
  • Bottom: glazed white center with the black "©J.S.N.Y. / TAIWAN" transfer, and a rough unglazed foot ring.
  • This copy: print and glaze look clean in the photos, the foot ring is gray with grime, and no chips show, though it hasn't been measured.

About the JSNY Country Calico pig mug

Who made the JSNY pig mug?

It's marked ©J.S.N.Y. TAIWAN, so it was made in Taiwan for a company that used the J.S.N.Y. name, though no company history for J.S.N.Y. was found. Some sellers expand the letters as Jeffrey Snyder New York, but no record confirming that turned up.

How old is a JSNY calico pig mug?

The mark has no year, so it can't be dated exactly. Sellers and dealers agree on the 1980s, and other J.S.N.Y. pieces made in Taiwan carry 1980s dates, such as a ceramic tile stamped JSNY 198 with the last digit hard to read. J.S.N.Y. pieces marked Hong Kong are dated by sellers to the 1970s.

What other animals are in the JSNY calico mug set?

Listings show a white cow on red, a white chicken or rooster on yellow, a white duck or goose on green and the white pig on blue, each on a matching calico ground. The same designs turn up on ceramic tile trivets and tin trays.

How can you tell a JSNY pig mug from a lookalike?

Turn it over. The JSNY mug has a small black ©J.S.N.Y. / TAIWAN transfer in the center of the glazed bottom and a rough unglazed foot ring. The pig is plain white with blue outlines and orange-red hooves, and it appears on both sides of the mug, facing opposite ways.

What is a JSNY pig mug worth?

Not much. On October 29, 2026, single pig mugs asked $5.40 to $15 before shipping, or about $12 to $27 delivered, and a pig and cow pair asked $21.99. These are asking prices, not sales.
