What to check on tableware
- Backstamp: the mark under a plate or base names the maker or seller and often the country it was made in.
- Wear: knife marks, faded glaze and worn gold show how much a piece was used. Sets in matching condition sell better.
- Dishwasher and microwave: older pieces with gold trim or hand painting can fade or crack. Hand wash anything you want to keep.
- Sets: napkin rings, shakers and dinnerware sell best together. Note how many pieces you have.
