How to date vintage clothing
- Tag: the tag brand, fabric blend and country of origin are the best clues to age. Made in USA tags are common before the late 1990s.
- Stitching: single stitch hems are common on t-shirts made before the mid 1990s, though not every older shirt has them.
- Print and patch: cracked ink, faded patches and worn embroidery come with age. A crisp print on a modern blank points to a reprint.
- Hats: snapback straps, foam fronts and mesh backs are common on 1970s and 1980s trucker caps.
