This is a souvenir baseball cap from EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018, the Experimental Aircraft Association's yearly fly-in in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, held July 23 to 29, 2018. It is a six-panel unstructured dad hat in faded, washed navy cotton twill with a curved bill, a self-fabric back strap and an antique brass slide buckle. On the front, a round embroidered patch shows OSHKOSH and EAA® in boxed gold-yellow letters, with a white airplane seen from above and '18 in white on navy. Inside, the only tag reads MADE IN CHINA. A souvenir from AirVenture 2018
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is the Experimental Aircraft Association's yearly fly-in at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The 2018 show ran Monday, July 23 through Sunday, July 29, and EAA reported about 601,000 attendees and more than 10,000 aircraft arriving in the area. An '18 on the patch dates this cap to that year's event.
A faded navy cap with a round OSHKOSH '18 EAA patch
This EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 hat is a six-panel unstructured baseball cap, the soft low-profile style often called a dad hat, in navy, a washed denim-like navy, cotton twill with a garment-washed finish that fades lighter along the seams and edges. A curved bill, sewn eyelets on the crown panels, a fabric-covered button on top and an adjustable back strap complete it.
Centered on the front panels sits a round embroidered patch with a navy ground and a navy merrowed (overlocked) border. A yellow, a golden mustard yellow, line forms a stylized outline that boxes the word OSHKOSH across the top in chunky outlined block capitals and EAA across the bottom in the same outlined block capitals, followed by a small circled R mark. In the middle, a white, a soft off-white, embroidered low-wing single-engine airplane seen from above points up and to the left, beside '18 in white rounded numerals. Several rows of tonal navy stitching run across the bill.
Inside, the seams are covered with navy tape, the patch shows through as reversed embroidery on the front panels, and a cotton sweatband runs around the opening. A small cream fabric tag on the sweatband at the back reads MADE IN CHINA in plain block capitals; no brand name or size appears on it. The back closes with a self-fabric navy strap through an antique brass-tone slide buckle.
On this copy: standard adult size (not measured). Faded overall, the cap has dust, lint and white specks on the crown, bill and sweatband, scuffing on the bill and darker grime on the strap. The patch embroidery is intact, with no loose threads seen.
