Miniature Fine Bone China Teapot with Purple Pansies and Gold Trim, Three Roses Made in England Mark

Quick identification

This is a miniature English fine bone china teapot, about palm size, with a pear-shaped fluted body, a pointed domed lid, a curved spout and a scroll handle. Both sides carry printed bouquets of purple pansies, small violet blooms and creamy white five-petal flowers with green leaves, and the lid has a pansy and a white flower. Gold lines trim the finial, lid, rim, spout and foot. The base is printed in black with three small roses over Fine Bone China, Made in England. Since the mark names no factory, the maker and pattern are unidentified. Its age is not marked.

About this item

An unnamed English bone china miniature

The backstamp tells us this teapot is fine bone china made in England, but it does not name the factory or the pattern. Miniature teapots like this were made as cabinet and gift pieces rather than for brewing tea.

Detailed visual description

A palm-size white teapot with purple pansy bouquets

This miniature pansy bone china teapot is a palm-size cabinet teapot in white, a bright glossy porcelain white, fine bone china marked Made in England. A rounded pear-shaped body narrows to a waisted neck and sits on a short flared foot; a long curved spout and a looped scroll handle with a small thumb rest complete the shape. The main colors are white, purple (a deep violet), soft green and gold.

Each side of the body carries the same printed floral bouquet: large pansies in purple, a velvety violet with darker plum faces and small yellow centers, one shaded with orange and gold; smaller violet blooms; creamy white five-petal flowers with yellow-green centers; tiny white blossom sprigs and green, a soft sage, leaves. Gentle vertical flutes run around the upper body, and the rim is softly scalloped. The domed lid rises to a pointed knob finial and is printed with purple pansies and a large white flower with a yellow center. Gold, a bright yellow gold, lines trim the finial, the lid edge, the body rim, the spout tip and the foot ring, with a gold touch on the handle.

The backstamp is printed in black at the center of the flat glazed base: three small roses on leafy stems in a row across the top, Fine in a looped handwritten script below them, Bone China in larger script with a capital B and C, and Made in England in small plain sans-serif letters at the bottom. No maker's name or pattern name appears. Inside, the pot and the lid are plain white glaze, and the lid has a short flange that sits inside the rim.

On this copy: roughly 3 to 4 inches tall, estimated from the hand in the photos (not measured). No chips or cracks are visible. The gold line on the lid edge has light wear and a few dark flecks, there is a small pink smudge on top of the handle, and there is gray grime on the foot ring and around the edge of the base. No crazing seen.

Questions

About the Miniature Pansy Bone China Teapot

What does the three roses Fine Bone China Made in England mark mean?

It tells you the material and the country only. The mark has no factory or pattern name, so it does not identify the maker on its own.

How do I identify who made my miniature pansy teapot?

Check the base for any extra words, numbers or a pattern name, and compare the exact shape of the lid finial, spout and handle with marked teapots. This one shows only the three roses mark, so the maker is still unknown.

Is a mini bone china teapot meant for making tea?

Teapots this small were usually sold as decorative cabinet or gift pieces. This one has a working spout and a loose lid, but it holds very little.

Is my miniature pansy teapot old or a reproduction?

The mark has no date code or maker name. The printed decals and bright gold suggest later 20th century giftware, but that is an estimate, and the piece cannot be dated closely from the mark.
