A 2006 Starbucks tea mug
Starbucks dated this mug 2006 on the base and sized it at 14 fl oz. It is sold on the resale market as the Starbucks steep tea mug, named for the single word on its raised front panel.
A white flared mug with a raised steep teacup panel
The Starbucks 2006 steep mug is a tall ceramic tea mug in white, a bright glossy white, with a flared, trumpet-like shape that widens from a narrow foot to a wide rim. Inside, the glaze is green, a soft pistachio or celery green, which shows as a thin green line around the rim from the outside. A large open loop forms the handle, flaring where it meets the body.
On the side that faces you when the handle is on the right is a raised square panel with softly rounded corners that stands out slightly from the wall of the mug. Inside it, over a pale green watercolor-style wash, is a small brown teacup on a saucer with a tea bag string and tag hanging over the side, and below it the word steep in lowercase brown letters with small serifs, drawn in a casual hand-lettered style. Otherwise the outside is plain white.
The base has an unglazed, speckled tan foot ring around a glazed white center printed in black. STARBUCKS and COFFEE are stacked in the middle in bold block capitals, with 14FL. OZ below. Around the edge, in a circle of smaller upper and lower case letters, runs ©2006 Starbucks Coffee Company-All Rights Reserved-Made in China-Microwave and Dishwasher Safe-.
On this copy: size not measured beyond the 14 fl oz marking. The outside has gray utensil and scuff marks, a brownish smudge near the rim and light scratches on the lower body. Inside, the green glaze looks clean, with no chips seen.
