Muscle Machines 1:18 1969 Dodge Charger R/T in Stars and Stripes Flag Paint with Chrome Blower, Funline
The Funline Muscle Machines 1969 Dodge Charger R/T in stars and stripes is a 1:18 die-cast hot rod with cartoon proportions, painted like the American flag: a royal blue front with white stars and an off-white rear body with red stripes over the sides, roof and trunk. A chrome blower and tall chrome scoop with three red-tinted openings rise through the hood. Chrome five-spoke wheels, a Charger grille script, a red R/T tail badge and a side exhaust finish it off, and it sits on a black base with a raised MUSCLE MACHINES TM logo. Funline launched Muscle Machines in 1999. Sellers date this model to about 2002 and list it as item 71166.

A late-run Funline Muscle Machine in flag paint
Muscle Machines was launched by Funline Merchandising Company in 1999. The line put cartoonish, hot-rodded versions of American muscle cars on the shelf, with exposed chrome engines and oversized rear tires. Funline was sold to Action Performance in 2003, and Maisto took over the brand and most of the molds in 2012. This stars and stripes '69 Charger is one of the original Funline 1:18 cars.
A '69 Charger in flag paint with a chrome blower
The Muscle Machines 1:18 1969 Dodge Charger R/T in stars and stripes is a die-cast hot rod model with the exaggerated Muscle Machines look: a chopped, stretched body that sits low, a huge chrome supercharger sticking up through the hood, and fat rear tires. Its paint copies the American flag. Across the front third of the car, hood, fenders and front of the doors, the body is blue, a bright royal blue, scattered with white five-point stars. From the doors back the body is white, an off-white cream, with wide red stripes, a true flag red, running along the sides and lengthwise over the roof and trunk.
Front: the hood is cut away around a chrome blower engine with a tall chrome hood scoop on top. Three round red-tinted openings pierce the scoop's front face. Below the blower are chrome engine parts with red and blue anodized-look fittings and braided silver hoses. The hideaway-headlight grille is black with a small chrome Charger script badge. Sides: chrome door handles, a chrome side exhaust pipe below the doors, a chrome pop-open style gas cap on the left rear quarter, small amber side markers, and dark tinted windows. Wheels are chrome five-spoke mags on black tires, larger at the rear. Rear: the tail panel has red tail lights, a small red R/T badge in the center and a chrome bumper.
The car is screwed to a black plastic display base with a fine grid texture on top. In front of the car, the base carries a raised MUSCLE MACHINES logo in heavy, chunky capitals with uneven, cartoon-style letter edges, MUSCLE stacked over MACHINES, with a small TM at the lower right. Underneath, the base is a ribbed black plastic grid, with four Phillips screws in the center holding the car. No scale, item number or maker name was read on the base in these photos.
On this copy: the car and base are dusty, with dirt in the grid of the base. The white paint is dulled and grimy, the red stripes are scuffed, and there are paint chips on the front right fender edge and a few white flecks on the blue hood. Chrome on the blower, scoop and bumpers is dull and spotted, and the rear window is dirty. No box is shown.
