Detailed visual description

Girl in a long green gown and cap

Royal Worcester 3081 Grandmother's Dress is a bone china figurine of a young girl wearing a long, full-skirted gown that looks borrowed from an older relative, with a matching soft cap. She stands upright with her head turned slightly, and the wide skirt falls to the base on all sides so no feet show. The figure is glazed with a soft satin shine.

In this colorway the gown and cap are green, a soft sage or celadon green shading darker in the folds. The bodice is cut square at the neck and edged with a white ruffled collar trimmed in peach (a pale apricot) that runs down the front in two bands, each ending at a small round button above the high waist. Long puffed sleeves end in white cuffs. Her left hand lifts a fold of the skirt at her side. Her hair is fair, blonde with light brown and peach shading, in curls under the cap, with painted brown eyes and pink lips. At the back the collar bands run down to the waist and the skirt falls in deep pleats.

The base is the bottom edge of the skirt, glazed white inside with an irregular wavy outline and a round hole in the center. To the right of the hole sits the printed black mark: GRANDMOTHERS DRESS in plain spaced block capitals, MODELLED BY and F.G.DOUGHTY in smaller capitals, then the Royal Worcester crest, a crown above a circle of interlaced script W's with the number 51 in a small circle at the center, ringed by ROYAL WORCESTER ® FINE BONE CHINA, with ENGLAND and the shape number 3081 below.

On this copy: not measured; the base fits in an adult palm. A small hand-painted blue decorator's mark sits near the edge of the base. Light grime runs along the base rim, and there are some dark specks in the glaze on the skirt. No chips or repairs were seen.
