This is a Hot Wheels licensed metal wastebasket (trash can) from 2002, printed "©2002 Mattel. All Rights Reserved." in small white type near the bottom corner. It is a square lithographed tin can that widens from a small square base to a larger square top, with a rolled metal rim. The sides are royal blue; the front carries the flame-shaped Hot Wheels logo (yellow lettering on a red and orange flame) above a blue modern sports car with silver wheels speeding over a yellow flame streak. Inside is gold-tone lacquered tin. It is kids' bedroom decor, not a toy.

Bedroom decor for Hot Wheels fans
Mattel licensed the Hot Wheels name and flame logo for room decor, and this tin wastebasket is printed with a 2002 Mattel copyright. Listings of the same blue square can show it was sold as a matching kids' bedroom accessory.
Blue square Hot Wheels tin trash can with the flame logo
The Hot Wheels 2002 metal wastebasket is a square, tapered tin trash can that is narrow at the base and flares out to a wider square mouth, with four crisp vertical corner folds. Outside, it is printed (lithographed) in blue, a glossy royal blue, and the inside is gold, a brassy gold-tone lacquer over the tin. Around the top runs a rolled metal rim, silver to gold in color.
Front to back: the front panel carries the Hot Wheels logo, the familiar long flame shape in red, a bright tomato red, shading to orange, with Hot Wheels inside it in bouncy, slanted capitals in yellow, a sunny lemon yellow, with white highlights. Under the logo a blue concept sports car with silver wheels, a black mesh grille and narrow headlights races to the right over a horizontal yellow and orange flame streak. In the lower right corner of the front panel, small white type reads ©2002 Mattel. All Rights Reserved. The side panel shown next to it is plain blue.
Inside, the walls and the small square floor are bare gold-tone tin with no printing. The floor is set into the walls with a crimped seam, and one vertical seam runs up a corner. No other maker's name, model number or country of origin was seen in the photos.
On this copy: not measured; a hand gripping the rim shows it is a standard small wastebasket size. At the corners the rim is dented and wavy, with the gold finish rubbed through. Scratches, scuffs and a small green paint mark show on the blue sides, and the inside has dark spots, scratches and small dents. The printed logo and car are complete and bright.
