Aladdin Alacite Tall Lincoln Drape Kerosene Mantle Lamp with Nu-Type Model B Brass Burner
This is an Aladdin tall Lincoln Drape kerosene mantle lamp in Alacite, Aladdin's creamy ivory glass with a faint pink tint. The round font has vertical ribs with molded draped swags, knots and tassel drops, set on a rope-twist collar, ribbed column and stepped faceted foot with a laurel wreath molded under the hollow base. It carries a brass Aladdin Nu-Type Model B burner whose knob reads MANTLE LAMP CO., NU-TYPE, Model B, Aladdin, PATENTS PENDING, MADE IN U.S.A., CHICAGO, ILL. Collectors date tall Alacite Lincoln Drapes to the 1940s. New Lincoln Drape lamps are still made, so the old Chicago-marked burner helps separate vintage lamps from current ones.

Aladdin's Lincoln Drape in Alacite
The Mantle Lamp Company of America, maker of Aladdin lamps, was founded in Chicago in 1908 and moved its office to Nashville in 1949. Its Nu-Type side-draft burners date from 1932, and the Model B burner was made until 1955, so a knob reading Chicago, Ill. points to a lamp from before that change. Lincoln Drape, with swags molded around the font, is one of the best known Aladdin glass patterns, and Alacite is Aladdin's name for its creamy white glass. Aladdin still sells new Lincoln Drape lamps.
Creamy Alacite lamp with draped swags and a brass Model B burner
The Aladdin Alacite tall Lincoln Drape kerosene lamp is a pedestal table lamp made entirely of molded glass, with a round font (fuel bowl) on a slender column stem and a wide stepped foot. Its glass is Alacite, Aladdin's creamy white: a warm ivory with a faint pink tint and a soft, slightly translucent glow. On top sits a brass Aladdin burner in a dull antique brass finish with perforated sections.
Fine vertical ribs run all the way around the font, with a molded drape (swag) of cloth hanging in loops from small knots at intervals around the upper edge, and short tassel-like drops falling between the swags. At the top, the shoulder has a small crimped (scalloped) edge, a raised glass collar for the burner and a threaded brass fill cap at one side. Below the font is a rope-twist collar, then a ribbed column stem that flares into stepped rings on a faceted, many-sided foot. The burner has a perforated lower body, a round wick-raising knob on a short shaft, a ring gallery with a row of round vent holes, and a tall perforated top cylinder that holds the chimney and mantle.
Underneath, the foot is hollow. Inside it, a molded ring of laurel leaves circles a round center opening into the stem, and small round nubs are spaced around the rim of the foot. The wick knob is stamped with raised lettering: MANTLE LAMP CO. arched across the top, NU-TYPE and Model B in small capitals, Aladdin in large, bold, slightly slanted lettering through the middle, PATENTS PENDING beneath, MADE IN U.S.A. and CHICAGO, ILL. arched across the bottom.
On this copy: no measurements were taken, and the lamp is shown without chimney, mantle or shade. The brass burner is tarnished with patches of green verdigris on the gallery, the knob lettering is worn but readable, and the glass has light dirt and fuel staining around the collar and fill hole. No chips or cracks are visible in the glass.
