Vintage Cast Iron Fork and Slotted Skimmer Set, Marked Taiwan
A rusty cast iron fork and slotted spoon set with hanging ends, each marked TAIWAN
This vintage cast iron fork and slotted skimmer set is two long, heavy kitchen utensils with a dark rust-brown finish and a rough, sand-cast surface. Each piece is about 11 inches long and has TAIWAN cast in raised capital letters on the handle. The fork's handle ends in a pointed tip with a cutout loop, and the skimmer's handle ends in a curled hook, so both can hang on a wall.
To tell it from other oversized rusty iron forks and spoons with holes, look for the Taiwan mark, the hook on the spoon and the loop on the fork.
- Fork head: four long, flat, straight tines on a wide, flat head.
- Fork handle: a thin shaft with a small collar near the head, swelling into a wide, flat, fish-like shape, then ending in a pointed tip with a bell- or heart-shaped cutout.
- Skimmer bowl: round and shallow, with about 18 round holes spread across it.
- Skimmer handle: long and round, ending in a tight curled hook.
- Marks: "TAIWAN" in raised capitals, on the flat part of the fork handle and on the skimmer's handle.
- Surface: rough, pebbly texture typical of sand casting.
- Color: rust brown with darker gray-black areas.

About the Taiwan cast iron fork and skimmer set
Where was this set made?
Taiwan. "TAIWAN" is cast in raised letters on both handles. No maker's name appears on either piece.
How old is it?
No date is marked. Cast iron kitchen pieces marked Taiwan are generally mid-to-late 1900s imports, so that's the working estimate until a catalog or dated example turns up.
What was it used for?
Most likely decoration. The hook and loop are for hanging, and sets like this were sold as rustic kitchen wall decor. With this much rust it shouldn't be used for food.
How big is it?
About 11 inches long for each piece.
