This small sculpture shows a mother seated on a little stool with a drawer, wrapped in a loose robe, as a young child stands between her knees and hugs her. It's cold cast bronze with a green felt base. Copies have turned up in the United States and in Barendrecht in the Netherlands, neither with a maker's mark.
Confirmed match. The same sculpture is listed on Marktplaats in Barendrecht, the Netherlands, as "Bronzen beeldje van moeder en kind" (bronze figurine of mother and child), 16 cm tall. Its front and back photos match this piece exactly: the robed mother, the toddler between her knees, and the small stool with a drawer and round knob. The maker is not named on either listing.
What cold cast bronze is. Instead of pouring molten metal, cold casting mixes fine bronze powder with resin and casts it in a mold at room temperature. The surface looks and patinas like bronze, at a fraction of the weight and cost of a foundry casting.
