A. Santini Moses (Mosè) Figurine after Michelangelo, Moses with Horns

About this figurine

A small Italian souvenir copy of Michelangelo's Moses, signed A. Santini

This A. Santini Moses figurine is a small cream-colored copy of Michelangelo's Moses, the seated, horned prophet on the tomb of Pope Julius II in San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome. The front of the base is molded MOSE, the Italian name, and the piece is signed A. Santini twice and marked ITALY. The owner's listing and one other live listing describe it as about 5 inches tall, resin, and made in Rome in 1969; no date or city is visible on the figure, so the year rests on those listings. Another live listing names the maker as A. Santini. Similar small Moses copies are sold signed G. Ruggeri or G.R.; this one is not, so those are a different maker's version.

Detailed visual description

A cream-colored seated Moses with horns, a long flowing beard and the tablets under his arm

The A. Santini Moses is a cream-colored cast figure, an ivory white with tan antique shading worked into the folds, of Moses seated on a block. Two short horns rise from his curly hair. His long, wavy beard falls to his waist, and the fingers of his right hand comb through it. The two tablets of the law stand upright under his right arm. His bare, muscular left arm rests across his lap. A heavy robe drapes over his knees; his right foot, in a sandal, is set forward on the base, and his left leg is drawn back. He sits on a plain rectangular base with MOSE in raised capitals on the front.

Questions

About the A. Santini Moses figurine

What is this Moses figurine?

A small cream-colored souvenir copy of Michelangelo's Moses, the seated, horned prophet from the tomb of Pope Julius II in San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome. The base is molded MOSE, the Italian name, and signed A. Santini, Italy.

Why does Moses have horns?

Michelangelo's statue shows Moses with two horns on his head, and copies keep them. That is why sellers list these as Moses with horns.

Is it a G. Ruggeri piece?

No. This copy is signed A. Santini on the seat and on the base, with ITALY. Small Moses copies signed G. Ruggeri or G.R. are a different maker's version.

When was it made?

Two listings, the owner's and one other, date it to 1969 in Rome. No date or city is visible on the figure or base in the photos, so that date is not confirmed by the piece itself.

Two live eBay listings on October 25, 2026 asked $44.14 and $48.22 delivered. The owner's copy, with small chips, sold for $21 plus $6.86 shipping in October 2026.
