The top flares into a square collar of crosshatched octagons and cross-cut stars, finished with a sawtooth rim pointed at the corners. Detailed visual description

Square vase with lined flowers and a flared crosshatch top

This square cut glass floral vase is a tall, heavy, four-sided column of clear glass that tapers slightly toward a thick square base and opens at the top into a wide flared square collar. The glass is clear, colorless and bright, with a slight gray cast in the thick base. In style it imitates brilliant cut glass: deep polished cuts combined with large flowers whose petals are filled with fine parallel lines.

Sides: each of the four faces carries a large five-petal flower with petals filled with fine parallel lines (a lined, satin-looking engraving) and a small crosshatched center, plus a smaller flower lower down, all set among long, pointed, polished leaves that sweep up and outward in a spray. Top: the flared collar is a band of large crosshatched octagons (a fine diamond grid inside each octagon) separated by small stars made of crossing cuts, with a row of small pyramids and triangles along its lower edge. The rim is cut into a sawtooth or serrated edge with a raised point at each corner.

Base: the bottom is a thick, flat square slab of glass with slightly rounded corners. An eight-pointed star is cut into the center of the underside. No maker's acid mark, sticker or molded name is visible on the base or sides.

On this copy: the vase stands roughly 11 to 12 inches tall, judged against a hand in photo 4 (not measured). Many fine scratches and scuffs from use mark the underside. The rim points look intact, and no chips or cracks were seen in these photos. Packing paper is visible inside the vase in some photos.

Questions

About the Square Cut Glass Floral Vase, Sawtooth Rim

How do I tell if my crystal vase is cut or pressed?

Cut glass has sharp, crisp edges and polished cuts you can feel, while pressed glass has softer, rounded edges and often mold seams. This vase has a crisply cut star on the base and sharp polished leaves; the lined flowers and crosshatch band could be cut or pressed and finished, which we cannot confirm from photos.

Who made this square vase with flowers and a sawtooth rim?

It has no mark or label, and we have not matched it to a maker. Many square cut and etched style vases were made in Europe and the US.

What is a square cut glass floral vase worth?

A similar square sawtooth floral vase was listed on eBay at $26.39. We have no confirmed sale of this exact vase.
