1930s Walt Disney Long-Billed Donald Duck, Mickey and Minnie Bisque Toothbrush Holder
Long-billed Donald with Mickey and Minnie, made in Japan in the 1930s
In the 1930s, Japanese potteries made a wave of inexpensive hand-painted bisque figures and toothbrush holders of Disney characters, marked "© Walt Disney, Made in Japan." This one shows Donald Duck in his earliest look, with the long, narrow bill he had in his first cartoons after his 1934 debut, before his design was rounded off later in the decade. He stands in his sailor suit with his arms around Mickey and Minnie, in front of a block with two toothbrush slots. Many surviving examples have lost much of their cold paint, which was applied after firing and wears off easily.

The 1930s long-billed Donald toothbrush holder is a white bisque porcelain group of three Disney characters standing side by side on a flat rectangular base. Donald Duck is in the middle, taller than the others, with a long, narrow bill, a blue-banded sailor hat and a blue sailor shirt with a big bow, and his arms wrap around Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, with Mickey on the left and Minnie on the right as you face it. Behind them rises a square block with two square openings on top for toothbrushes and a keyhole-shaped hole on the back for hanging it on a nail. The front of the base dips into a shallow trough.
You can identify this bisque toothbrush holder by the long-beaked Donald Duck in a sailor hat with his arms around Mickey and Minnie, and by the Walt Disney, Made in Japan mark.
- Donald: long narrow bill, round eyes, sailor hat with a blue band, blue sailor shirt with a white collar and bow, orange legs and feet.
- Mickey: on the left, black body, pie-cut eyes, open smiling mouth, yellow or green shorts, brown shoes.
- Minnie: on the right, black body, small hat between her ears, red skirt.
- Block: rectangular, two square brush slots on top, keyhole hanging hole on the back.
- Base: flat and rectangular, with a raised lip and a trough across the front.
- Paint: cold-painted colors over white bisque, often with a yellow or tan wash on the block and base. The paint is fragile, so many examples are heavily worn.

About the long-billed Donald toothbrush holder
How old is this Donald, Mickey and Minnie toothbrush holder?
It's from the 1930s. The long, narrow bill is Donald's earliest design, used after his 1934 debut and changed later in the decade.
Where was it made?
In Japan. It's incised "© Walt Disney, Made in Japan" on the back.
Why is the paint worn off?
The colors were cold-painted after firing, so they rub off easily with handling and washing. Examples with bright, complete paint sell for much more.
What is it worth?
Live listings on October 16, 2026 ran from about $27 to $100 delivered, mostly depending on how much paint is left.
