About this item

The robin egg that opens Avon's 1984 bird series

The Avon Four Seasons robin egg is a white porcelain egg printed with an American robin leaning down to feed three chicks in a nest, among pink flowers and spring greenery, with "Every Spring Brings a New Beginning" in gold script on the back. It is the spring egg of the Avon Four Seasons Porcelain Egg Series, and its box calls it "Spring · A New Beginning." The series boxes are dated © 1984.

The series has four eggs, each with a different pair or family of songbirds and a gold line on the back: Spring: A New Beginning with robins, Summer's Song with bluebirds among raspberries ("Summer's Song Is Warm and Bright"), Autumn's Magic Changes with orioles in oak leaves and acorns ("Autumn Brings Magic Changes"), and Winter's Bold Beauty with cardinals. The summer box calls its egg "second in a series of four collectibles that celebrate the joy and natural beauty of the seasons," and says "bluebirds in a lush green aerie sing the praises of high summertime." Full sets of four, still boxed with their stands, turn up often.

Avon didn't make the eggs. The boxes read "Created in Japan exclusively for Avon Products, Inc., Distr. © 1984 — All rights reserved," and no factory is named on the egg or box. Avon began in 1886 as David H. McConnell's door-to-door perfume business in New York, called the California Perfume Company until 1939, and in the 1980s it sold porcelain plates, figurines and eggs through its representatives' brochures under a "Source of Fine Collectibles" mark. Avon's 1984 issue price for the eggs couldn't be found.

The egg came boxed with a round, turned wood stand in a walnut-brown finish, both held in a fitted foam insert. The spring box is pale yellow-green with painted pink and violet flowers on the sides and the series title in green script on the end, over "Spring · A New Beginning." Three years later Avon issued a second set of four seasonal eggs, the Gifts of Nature Porcelain Egg Collection (1987–88), with flowers instead of birds; sellers mix up the two names, and some list this robin egg as "Gifts of Nature."

This copy is the egg alone, without its stand or box. Its bottom has the black Source of Fine Avon Collectibles stamp with no year, the same as other spring eggs photographed by sellers, so the stamp alone won't date it; the 1984 date comes from the box.

How to identify it

Which Avon seasons egg is it?

The four 1984 bird eggs share one shape, stamp and box style. The birds and the back script tell them apart, and the stamp tells them from Avon's later flower eggs. From this copy, boxed sets and listing photos, checked October 29, 2026.

Detailed visual description

A white egg with a robin family, pink flowers and gold script

The Avon Four Seasons spring egg is a hollow, glossy white porcelain egg about 3 inches tall, with a slightly flattened base so it stands upright. The front scene shows an American robin perched on a brown twig, its back and wings brown with darker feather edges, its breast orange (bright orange shading to yellow), a white eye ring and a yellow beak, leaning down to a woven straw nest where three brown-capped chicks gape upward. Around them are pink flowers with five rounded petals and green centers, smaller pink and violet blossoms on thin stems, broad green leaves and tall blades of grass.

The scene wraps from the front around toward the sides; the back is plain white with four lines of slanted gold script: "Every Spring / Brings / a New / Beginning," with large looping capitals. The bottom has a small recessed circle with a black circular stamp and a round vent hole beside it. There's no artist's signature on the decoration.

  • Front: robin on a twig feeding three chicks in a straw nest, with pink flowers, violets, leaves and grass.
  • Sides: flowers and leaves trail around both sides, thinning out toward the back.
  • Back: "Every Spring Brings a New Beginning" in gold script on four lines.
  • Bottom: glazed white with a shallow recessed center; black circular stamp reading "Source of Fine / Avon / Collectibles"; no year; one small round vent hole.
  • Stand (when present): round turned wood cup in a walnut-brown finish.
  • This copy: no stand or box. A faint tan grime ring circles the bottom, and the gold script and print look bright and complete. No chips or cracks show in the photos.
